Misdemeanor Crimes

Considered less serious than a felony, misdemeanors often result in jail time, fines, or both. Individuals convicted of misdemeanor offenses can face a maximum penalty of $500 in fines or up to one year in jail.

In addition, some felonies fall under the 85 percent rule, which states that individuals must serve at least 85% of their sentence before becoming eligible for early release.
