Cory Ortega was born and raised in Gatesville, Texas. After graduating from Gatesville High School, Mr. Ortega honorably served in the United States Navy from 2003 - 2007. After completion of his military service, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma where he received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, Magna Cum Laude. Mr. Ortega received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 2013.
While attending OU Law, Mr. Ortega interned at the Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office. Following his admission to the Oklahoma State Bar, in 2013, he was hired as an Assistant District Attorney in the Caddo County District Attorney’s Office. During his time in Caddo County, he prosecuted crimes ranging from juvenile delinquent and deprived matters to violent felony offenses. Mr. Ortega was also the prosecutor assigned to the Caddo County Drug Court, Juvenile Diversion Court, and the Child Advocacy Team.
Prior to joining The Law Offices of Keith J. Nedwick, P.C., Mr. Ortega served as Defense Counsel for the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System in Cleveland and Okmulgee counties. In his position as defense counsel, Mr. Ortega defended hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases including successfully defending criminal defendants in preliminary hearings, Drug Court and Community Sentencing Terminations, and several jury and nonjury trials. Mr. Ortega also represented numerous juveniles charged with delinquent offenses and served as the defense advocate for the Cleveland County Juvenile Drug Court.
Having served as both prosecutor and defense counsel, Mr. Ortega has a unique perspective of what is necessary to best serve his clients.
